    Ornamental Gourds

Don\'t worry, I\'m not planning on feeding the girls ornamental gourds! I want to do a fall photo shoot with them, with some unlacquered ornamental gourds as props/background. Ronnie will just ignore them, but I\'m afraid that even with close supervision, Phoebe will find a way to get a taste. Are these gourds harmful to them, or are they just like regular squash? If they are in any way harmful then of course I won\'t use them. Thanks!

Buster - 12 year old tabby cat

Campbell Jane - 5 year old bearded dragon

RIP Jasper, the best bearded dragon ever.

    Re:Ornamental Gourds

There are a lot of gourds listed as non-toxic to pets but I could not find any listed as toxic doing a quick search. I am by no means a gourd expert but what I read was that they are members of the cucumber family and we do not eat them because they taste bad (bitter) not because of any poison type of problem. I would wash the skin in case there was pesticide applied to them though.

    Re:Ornamental Gourds

After much Googling, I found some anecdotal reports of kabocha squash toxicity in dogs. I think I\'ll just get some artificial ones, just to be on the safe side.
